Weekly Social Studies Report

Current Events or This Week in History…
Weekly Social Studies Report
Directions:
Keep this paper in your folder so you can use it each week for your Current Events report. Answer the following questions on a separate sheet of paper using complete sentences. You will have Wednesday to Wednesday (one week) to work on this assignment either at home or during your free time at school. I will not assign you a specific time to work on this; it will be your responsibility to finish it on your own time. Every Wednesday morning, we’ll have a discussion time to share what we’ve found in our research.
Here are some websites that will be useful to you:

Questions to help you write your report:
3rd & 4th Grade must answer:
1.      Give the title (always capitalize all important words of a title and put it in quotations) and the author of your article.
2.      Give the name of the website, magazine, book, or newspaper where you found your article and bring it to share with the class.
3.      Tell us if your event happened historically (in the past) or is it current (happening now).
4.      Give a summary (short description answering the Who? What? Where? When? How? questions) about the article you have selected.
JUST 4th Grade must answer:
5.      Do you think this event is a national event (affecting only one country) or a global event (affecting our whole world)? Explain why you think this.
6.      What was the cause? What was the effect? What do you think will happen next?

8.      Finish your report by telling us your reaction to the event.

Field Day for 3rd & 4th graders at Metro-East Lutheran High School

Our class will attend the annual Field Day for 3rd & 4th graders at Metro-East Lutheran High School in Edwardsville on Tuesday, September 24 with a rain date scheduled for the following Tuesday, October 1. The high school is located at 6305 Center Grove Road right next to Edwardsville High School. Registration begins at 9 a.m. so we will leave Saint Paul’s at 8:45 a.m. Our day will wrap up about 1:30 p.m. and we’ll head back to Saint Paul’s.

The children will participate on teams of four in various competitions throughout the day. I welcome any of you who are available that day to join us—parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles! Please let me know if you would like to chaperone the field trip as we will need drivers to transport the students. Please also let me know how many children (including your own) you can transport.

I would like to know if your child will be bringing a packed lunch or purchasing a lunch on the field trip. Pre-ordered lunch bags will be available so that students don’t have to wait in the concession line. Pre-ordered lunch bags cost $3.00 and include a hot dog OR hamburger, chips, and bottled water. There will also be a concession stand selling all kinds of items for $1.50-$2.00/item. Please circle the items you wish for your child to order from the concession stand and send the appropriate money amount with the permission slip. Your child should wear a red shirt uniform for the day (They may wear athletic shorts or pants instead of their uniform bottoms). We’re looking forward to our trip! Hope you can make it!
